February 6 Meeting
Eric VanGoethem, Amada Senior Care
Home Health Care Benefits for Veterans and Spouses
AMRC member, Eric VanGoethem, has owned Amada Senior Care since February 2018 and has made it his mission to help seniors live safely and comfortably in the comfort of their own homes. Amada Senior Care is dedicated to finding nearby caregivers, finding the best local senior housing options, and connecting clients with an advisor who will provide information on funding their care needs.
Eric deeply empathizes with families who have experienced the vulnerability and uncertainty of seeing a loved one battle a disease. He watched his father quickly deteriorate from Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease—a rare, degenerative prion disease that attacks the brain and is always fatal. Eric says, “I watched my mom become my dad’s caregiver and saw the toll that it took on her physically and emotionally while trying to still be the loving, supporting wife that she had been over 40 years—it drained her for years to come. Had we known and understood the benefits of in-home caregivers at the time, I know we would have navigated that difficult time of transition more smoothly.”
Eric’s wife and Chief Operating Officer Sabrina VanGoethem’s own family experiences sparked her interest in making a difference in seniors’ lives. She is inspired by her mother, who has been working as a caregiver for years in San Antonio. Hearing her mother’s stories of feeling fulfilled by her work and witnessing her passion for being a caregiver, Sabrina developed her enthusiasm for providing in-home senior care. Says Sabrina, “I just loved hearing her stories from her clients—they have experienced much change in their lives, and it was fascinating to listen.”
